Building a Digital Library for English and Swahili Speakers

Swahili (often said as Kiswahili) is spoken by more than 200 million people mostly in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique.
When a non-profit focused on educational services in East Africa came to us we immediately were interested in putting together a quick prototype of what we internally called "the GoodReads of Africa".
In a few days we built a FREE prototype as part of our new Small Business and Non-profit Partnership Program...which was used by the NGO to share their vision with their donors.
The team at the non-profit (and individuals from one of their partner schools in Arusha, Tanzania) began uploading content and sending new feature requests our way.
It has been over 2 years since we started building Maktaba.org and the site has delivered hundreds of thousands of FREE books, helped schools (like EYDO) receive physically donated books, built tools for fundraising and put together an innovative platform to connect schools in Africa with mentors and supporters in the United States.
